Who can request a passport?

Only Belgians registered in the consular registers can obtain a passport.

Not yet registered? Find more information here.

Where can I request a passport?

A personal visit to the embassy in Oslo, by appointment, is required. During this visit, your photograph, signature (from 6 years old), and fingerprints (from 12 years old) will be taken.

This does not apply to children under 6 years of age.

It is not possible to obtain a passport through the honorary consulates.

Do I need to have my biometric data taken?

Yes, the biometric data must be taken again for each new document. It is not possible to reuse the data from your current eID or passport.

Can I apply for a passport by emergency procedure?

Requesting a passport by emergency procedure is only possible in Belgium. More information can be found here.

I can't travel to Oslo, what now?

  • You can request a passport in:
    • Another consulate of your choice (not honorary consulates!) OR
    • In Belgium, in the municipality where you were last registered (last domicile) OR
    • In Belgium, in the municipality where you were born (only if you have never lived in Belgium) OR
    • In Belgium, in a municipality of your choice (if you have never lived in Belgium nor were you born in Belgium)

Please inform us if you have requested a passport elsewhere. This is because the embassy has to approve the passport application in the system. Only then will the passport go into production.

Please note! The passport is always delivered to where it was requested.
