The embassy can assist you in registering your child. The required documents depend on the parents' marital status, nationality and place of birth. If you have any questions, please contact us by e-mail.

The mother is Belgian, born in Belgium or both parents are Belgian, born in Belgium.
You provide us the following documents by post:
- Birth certificate (NO/IS), multilingual version, less than 6 months old, mentioning the parents, legalised by an apostille
- Registration form for minors, signed by both parents
- Copy of passport/identity card of both parents
- Proof of residence for all family members (NO/IS)
- If the father/mother is not Belgian nor Norwegian nor Icelandic and if available: proof of the child's other nationality (copy of passport/identity card, extract from population register of country of nationality, proof of registration in country of nationality,...)
- Optional: documents for passport /KidsID
- Optional: registration form foreign family member for non-Belgian parent
The father/co-mother is Belgian, born in Belgium
You provide us the following documents by post:
- Birth certificate (NO/IS), multilingual version, less than 6 months old, mentioning the parents, legalised by an apostille
- Registration form for minors, signed by both parents
- Copy of passport/identity card of both parents
- Proof of residence for all family members (NO/IS)
- If the mother is not Belgian nor Norwegian nor Icelandic: proof of the child's other nationality (copy of passport/identity card, extract from population register of country of nationality, proof of registration in country of nationality,...)
- Optional: documents for passport /KidsID
- Optional: registration form foreign family member for non-Belgian mother
One or both parents are Belgian, born outside of Belgium
The child is not automatically Belgian by birth. Belgian nationality must be granted before the child's 5th birthday.

- The name, date of birth, place of birth and nationality of both parents
- The name, date of birth, place of birth and any other nationality of your child

The father/co-mother or both parents are Belgian

The mother is Belgian, born in Belgium and the father/co-mother is Norwegian or Icelandic
You provide us the following documents by post:

- Copy of passport/identity card of both parents
- Proof of residence for all family members (NO/IS)
- If available, copy of the Norwegian/Icelandic passport/identity card of the child
- Optional: documents for passport /KidsID
- Optional: registration form foreign family member for non-Belgian mother
The mother is Belgian, born in Belgium and the father/co-mother is not Norwegian/Icelandic/Belgian
