  • Your current eID.
    • Has your current eID been lost or stolen? Click here.

Issuance

The eID and accompanying PUK letter will arrive at the embassy in Oslo after 3-4 weeks.

You can collect the card in person, by appointment, or it can be sent to you by registered mail. You bear the costs for this yourself, payable during the application. It is not necessary to provide a stamped envelope yourself.

The card must be collected from the embassy within 3 months of arrival. Afterwards it will be destroyed.

Activation

Do I need to have my card activated?

The eID is a valid identity document, even if it has not been activated.

The eID can also be used to identify oneself electronically and gain online access to various Belgian public services, elegalisation en itsme. To do this, the card must first be activated (see below). You will need your PUK letter for this purpose.

To use the card, you need a card reader which has to be connected to your computer. This can be purchased from your local multimedia shop. The software is available at eid.belgium.be/en

Where do I get my card activated?

The card cannot be activated at honorary consulates.

When can I get my card activated?

If you have chosen to collect the card in person, the card will be activated immediately.

If you have chosen to receive the card by registered mail, the PUK code will be sent by regular mail. You can then activate the card later, at a location of your choice.

Only the holder of an eID, even if a minor, can have the card activated. The card may only be activated in the holder's personal presence.
